The 13th Annual Franklin Area Folk Festival, “A Celebration of Appalachian Heritage” will be held on August 19, 2017 (the Saturday before the Solar Eclipse) from 10 am – 4 pm at historic Cowee School, Arts & Heritage Center located at 51 Cowee School Drive, Franklin, NC. (800) 932-5294.

A family friendly festival featuring heritage demonstrations, Appalachian crafts, music & jammin’ sessions, Civil War Re-enactors, Front Porch storytelling, antique car show/engines, kids’ activities, food, border collies’ demonstration, tours & more! Artisans inside Center include: Cowee Pottery School, Cowee Textiles, Houglum Fine Art, Portrait Legacies, Macon Co Historical Museum, Genealogy & Research, etc. FREE event! Co-sponsored by Folk Heritage Association of Macon County (www.folkheritageassociation.org) and the Cowee School, Arts & Heritage Center (www.coweeschool.org).

By linking our future to our past, the Franklin Area Folk Festival will feature many living history exhibits, demonstrations and hands-on activities to allow visitors to experience what mountain life was like way back when. These folks learned at their parents’ knee woodcarving, moonshinin’, basket making, weaving and spinning, and all the many other heritage skills they’ll be demonstrating. There will also be a full schedule of old time and mountain music with plenty of good food to eat.

Come learn about the culture and folkways of our Southern Appalachian Mountains by engaging in one of the many living history experiences, a trademark of the Franklin Area Folk Festival, “A Celebration of Appalachian Heritage.”
