An evening of traditional West African music will be presented at the Macon County Public Library.  Sean Gaskell will play the kora, a 21-string gourd-bottomed harp-like instrument which dates back more than 300 years and is native to the Mandinka people of West Africa.  The music Gaskell performs is traditionally played by oral and musical historians known as Griots.  Some commonly played songs can be traced back 800 years to the founding of the Mande Empire.

He will perform in the Macon County Public Schools on Thursday and Friday, April 28-29 through the Arts Council’s Artists-in-the-Schools program.  Learn more about him at seangaskell.com

Admission is by donation.
