The 9th Annual Mountain High BBQ Festival & Car Show comes to town August 11th – 12th at the Wayne Proffitt Agricultural Center, located on Highway 441 South. This year’s Presenting Sponsor is Lakes End Grill and Marina, where you’ll find everything you need for a great time on beautiful Lake Nantahala.
This two day event is a Kansas City BBQ Society (KCBS) sanctioned competition. BBQ teams from all over the country will cook Friday and Saturday preparing their best BBQ vying to be named Grand Champion earning a North Carolina State Championship. Festival admission will be $5 for adults; children 12 and under are free. Everyone entering the Festival on Friday between 11 am and 3 pm will receive free admission. Those who enter after 3 on Friday will pay $5 to enter, but will also receive a Saturday wrist band for FREE!
Saturday will feature the KCBS Professional and Backyard Competitions and Franklin’s own “Tastin’ Tent”. If you want to taste what the judges taste, the “Tastin’ Tent” is where you’ll want to be. Your “Tastin’ Tent” ticket will get you ten 2 oz. cups of BBQ pork from ten different teams. The entries will be judged by you. We’ll tally the ballots and crown Franklin’s Finest at the Awards Ceremony at 5 pm on Saturday. Only 200 “Tastin’ Tent” tickets are sold and are available at the Franklin Chamber of Commerce for only $5 with a paid festival admission. Tickets will also be sold at the gate while they last. The “Tastin’ Tent” will be held on Saturday promptly at 3 pm. In addition to the great BBQ from our vendors, there will also be burgers, hot dogs, Italian ice, ice cream, funnel cakes and more!
This year’s Car Show is again being organized by Southwestern Community College’s Automotive Club. The car show will be held Friday from 5 pm until 8 pm and all day Saturday. Here’s your chance to show off your car! All makes and models are welcome. Registration forms are available at the Franklin Chamber of Commerce.
