One of the great things about living, working and playing in Franklin and Nantahala is the diversity of nature and activities that we have, literally, so close to us. Whether it’s hiking a stretch of the Bartram Trail, biking one of the many back roads, walking or running along the scenic Greenway downtown, or taking your boat out on Nantahala Lake for an afternoon of fun, this piece of Western North Carolina has it all.

Nantahala Lake is located in the Nantahala National Forest and was created in 1942 by the Nantahala Power Company to help provide electricity for war efforts. With 42 miles of shoreline, the lake offers many opportunities for fishing, where you’ll find large and smallmouth bass, catfish, trout, salmon and many more. The other main activities on Nantahala Lake are swimming, boating, and water skiing.

Located outside Franklin off of Wayah Road, it is about a 40 minute drive through the scenic back country of the Nantahala National Forest. Look for spots along the way to stop and enjoy the natural beauty that is Franklin, NC. The weather is starting to turn, and soon, Spring will arrive and along with it will come the warmth and green of summer. It’s never too early to begin planning your next trip, or the rest of your life, here in the mountains of Western NC.
