So here we are, less than 48 hours away from the “Once-In-A-Lifetime” event known as The Great American Solar Eclipse 2017. We’re a small town here in Franklin, but we don’t live small. We have so much more than the moon blocking out the sun for 2.5 minutes on August 21st, so give us a few minutes and let us properly introduce ourselves to you!
Over the years, decades past, we were actually a pretty famous little town. Known as “The Gem Mining Capitol of the World”, we were home to some of the richest gem and mineral mining in the world. Over the years, the gem mines changed over to attractions for folks to come and spend time with their families, passing on the sifting of sand to younger generations, seeking out the riches of our mountains. Families have come for generations, passing on the tradition to their children and grandchildren. For the past two years, Franklin has been voted as Blue Ridge Outdoors Magazine’s Top Adventure Town (Small Town) by voters all across the country. If you’ve never been to Franklin & Nantahala area, take some time this weekend to get out and see some of our natural wonders. Stunning waterfalls, The Appalachian Trail, the Little Tennessee River Greenway in downtown Franklin, our balds (Wayah, Siler, Wesser), Lake Nantahala, just to pique your interest.
